While Pikeville is a bit more isolated from the Interstate, people still encounter tractor trailers when they travel to larger cities. These big rigs weigh thousands of pounds so it isn’t surprising that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states that it is the occupants of passenger vehicles who have the higher rate of injury when these two vehicle types collide.
It is unknown what led to a truck accident that recently occurred in Bath County. Investigators have not said whether they are looking at factors such as drugs, alcohol, speed, distraction or vehicle equipment failure. The trucker who was injured, was taken to a hospital for treatment. Apparently he rear-ended a passenger vehicle.
In the vehicle were two men. The driver died at the scene and the passenger was taken to the hospital by air transport. There is no word on what type of injuries he suffered in the crash, but authorities say that his condition is critical. It is also uncertain of whether the Kentucky State Police are planning to file any criminal charges against the truck driver.
A truck accident can be devastating. Serious injuries can leave people hospitalized for weeks, resulting in lost income, mounting medical debt, and emotional and psychological issues. However, victims of negligence do have rights and they can seek appropriate compensation from those who caused them harm. In such cases, they may find it helpful to meet with an experienced attorney, who can show them what their options are and explain to them how the process works.
