Kentucky woman killed in car crash

A 51-year-old Danville woman died after being involved in a vehicle collision near Springfield on Feb. 18. The collision took place just after 5 p.m. on the U.S. 150 highway bypass. After the crash, the woman was taken to Springfield Hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead.

The crash took place after a 50-year-old man driving west in a 2010 Chevrolet car traveled over the centerline of the highway and struck the 51-year-old woman, who was driving east in a 2003 Mitsubishi, head on. Police who investigated the accident reported that the slick condition of the road may have partially caused the collision.

The 50-year-old man and his 44-year-old female passenger were both taken to Springfield Hospital for medical treatment. The female passenger was later taken to the University of Louisville Hospital for further care. According to authorities, none of the victims were wearing a seat belt.

When liability for a vehicle accident is being determined in court, several different factors may be taken into consideration. Among these factors is duty of care. This refers to an obligation all drivers have to conduct themselves in a safe and responsible manner while operating a vehicle on a public road or highway. It can include paying attention to road hazards and decreasing speed when driving in slick road conditions.

If evidence can be introduced in court that shows a driver neglected the duty of care, the driver may be deemed liable for the car accident. An attorney may be able to use evidence from accident reports and traffic cameras to show a driver’s liability. If successful, the attorney’s client could be awarded financial compensation.
