Serious questions follow fatal head-on collision

July 11, 2015

All motor vehicle drivers across the state of Kentucky and the entire country are required to learn and abide by strict road safety guidelines. Not only is it the responsibility of every motorist to follow traffic signals but also avoid engaging in such dangerous practices as distracted driving and drunk driving. Unfortunately, however, state and federal regulations do not prevent some motorists from risking the lives of themselves and others on the road.

An 87-year-old man from Nicholas County, Kentucky, was killed recently in a head-on collision that took place in Montgomery County. The fatal accident victim was the only person inside the car at the time of the early afternoon incident. While emergency crews did respond to the collision, the man succumbed to his injuries at the site of the accident. No information was provided about the victim’s family.

Witnesses at the collision scene conveyed how violent the incident was, noting that the crash sounded like an explosion. The collision reportedly occurred when a pickup truck crossed the lane divider in the road and struck the accident victim’s car. Two people were inside the truck, and both were transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries. Their identities were not listed.

Kentucky State Police officers, along with local authorities, were attempting to reconstruct the accident. Beyond that, the incident was still under investigation to determine what caused the truck to veer into oncoming traffic. No information was provided on whether or not alcohol may have been a factor in the collision.
